In a bold demonstration of commitment to reliable power supply and economic transformation, the Honourable Member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi – OziomaChi, recently accompanied His Excellency, Governor Alex Chioma Otti OFR, to commission newly installed power infrastructure aimed at boosting electricity delivery across Abia State.
The commissioned projects include the 15 MVA Injection Substations, notably the 7.5 MVA 33/11 kV substation delivered in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under the Federal Government’s NIPP initiative, as well as another 7.5 MVA substation fully funded by the State Government under the 2026 budget estimate.
During the commissioning, Governor Otti further assured Abians of additional megawatts of power capacity to complement the Federal Government project. His determination led to a directive that the completion timeline be accelerated to six months instead of nine, underscoring his relentless drive for timely delivery and impact-driven governance.
This strong focus on power infrastructure is not merely about lights coming on — it is a strategic foundation for economic revitalization, industrial growth, job creation, and the opening of new investment corridors across the State. With sustainable energy comes business confidence, and with business confidence comes prosperity.
For the people of Bende North, the message is clear: the long-anticipated “Light Up Umunna” initiative championed by Hon. OziomaChi is now on the brink of full realization. Since the power link has already reached Umuahia — just minutes away from Bende — it is only a matter of time before communities in Bende North enjoy the transformational benefits of steady electricity.
