Abia State on The Threshold of History: A New Era For The People – OziomaChi

Today, I am deeply honored to join my co-legislators, His Excellency Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and members of his executive council to witness the signing of eighteen landmark bills into law. This historic moment marks a new era for Abia State and her people, touching every aspect of our society—from education and health to infrastructure and economic development.

Among these bills, the Electricity Law stands out as the most critical. In February 2024, I was privileged to speak at the Canada Energy Summit, where I called on the global community to invest in renewable energy in Abia State, particularly in Bende North. I am proud to say that His Excellency responded swiftly by establishing a mega solar center in April this year, which will serve Abia State University and Umunneochi. This initiative is a remarkable demonstration of visionary leadership that does not wait for external intervention but takes bold action to meet our energy needs.

In addition to this solar project, the Electricity Law facilitates the expansion of power infrastructure through the acquisition of existing electricity generation and distribution companies. This law aligns with the Electricity Act of 2023, empowering the state, local governments, groups, and individuals to contribute to ensuring a stable and constant electricity supply. More importantly, it will unlock economic opportunities by enabling businesses and industries to thrive with reliable power.

I can confidently say that we are on the threshold of a new era in Abia’s development. To the people of Bende North Constituency and all Abians, I say welcome to a brighter future filled with promise and progress.
