Excitement and jubilation enveloped Umunnato Communities as the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, officially flagged off the construction of the Umunnato Specialist Hospital, a landmark healthcare project aimed at strengthening quality medical service delivery in the state.
In a major highlight of the event, Governor Otti also announced the constitution of a high-powered supervisory committee to oversee the successful execution and timely delivery of the hospital project.
Among those enlisted into the supervisory committee are the Honourable Member representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi popularly known as OziomaChi, the Deputy Mayor, Ngozi Benson, renowned philanthropist and business mogul Chima Anyaso, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
The Governor expressed confidence in the capacity, integrity, and commitment of the committee members, noting that their wealth of experience and dedication to service would ensure transparency, quality control, and effective supervision of the project from inception to completion.
Governor Otti described the Umunnato Specialist Hospital as a strategic intervention in the healthcare sector, emphasizing that the facility would provide world-class medical services, reduce medical tourism, and improve access to specialized healthcare for residents within and outside the area.
“This project is not just about infrastructure; it is about saving lives, creating opportunities, and giving our people hope. We are determined to build a healthcare system that works for everyone,” the Governor stated.
The flag-off ceremony attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, women groups, youths, healthcare stakeholders, and members of the community who applauded Governor Otti for what they described as visionary and people-oriented leadership.
Speaking after the inauguration, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi – OziomaChi assured the Governor and the people of Abia State that the supervisory committee would diligently carry out its responsibilities to ensure the successful completion of the project according to specification and within record time.
Residents of Umunnato expressed overwhelming joy over the project, describing it as a historic development capable of transforming healthcare delivery, boosting economic activities, and improving the welfare of the people.
Political observers have continued to hail Governor Alex Otti’s administration for sustaining the tempo of infrastructural development and institutional reforms across Abia State, noting that the Umunnato Specialist Hospital stands as another bold legacy project under the present administration.
